Although we are entering summer vacation time, Ross Woodward is already preparing for the opening of school in August. While summer is a time for reflection, intellectual renewal for our students, recreation and relaxation, we are hopeful that it is also a time of preparation for the academic year ahead. Specifically, we are hoping that the summer offers opportunities for reading. At Ross Woodward we believe that reading is the gateway to academic success. Ross Woodward students are expected to read every day for at least 20 minutes per day. Have fun exploring the many, many books available at our public libraries. Remember, your child’s public library card can be used at any Connecticut public library. We recommend students sign up for New Haven Free Public Library’s Summer Learning Club. This club is open to all New Haven Public Schools students. The NHFPL also offers many diverse digital resources such as Overdrive, Freading, BookFlix, TrueFlix, ScienceFlix, TumbleBooks, and Zinio to keep your child reading even if you can’t always make it to the library. To join the Summer Learning Club, visit the New Haven Free Public Library (or any branch), or go online, and sign up! Visit www.nhfpl.org to learn more. Please encourage your child to read nightly. Choose a special place to read. It should not be a chore, but part of the daily routine that is part of his/her life. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to extending your child’s education throughout the summer. |
