Dear Ross Woodward Community: Although we are entering summer vacation time, Ross Woodward is already preparing for the opening of school in August. While summer is a time for reflection, intellectual renewal for our students, recreation and relaxation, we are hopeful that it is also a time of preparation for the academic year ahead. Specifically, we are hoping that the summer offers opportunities for reading. At Ross Woodward we believe that reading is the gateway to academic success. Ross Woodward students are expected to read every day for at least 20 minutes. Have fun exploring the many, many books available at our public libraries. Remember, your student’s public library card can be used at any Connecticut public library. We recommend students sign up for New Haven Free Public Library’s Summer Learning Challenge. This challenge is open to all New Haven Public School students. All students will be required to complete summer reading for Ross Woodward. All students in grades pre-K through grade 8 have been given bags of summer reading books. Each book has a Think Sheet that must be completed. The summer reading Think Sheets must be submitted to your student’s new homeroom teacher by Friday, September 8, 2023. Please encourage your student to read nightly. Choose a special place to read. It should not be a chore, but part of the daily routine that is part of his/her life. Talk to your student about his/her books. Asking questions about reading helps to support understanding and excitement about the things your student reads. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to extending your student’s education throughout the summer. Thank you and have a wonderful summer! The Ross Woodward Team Dear Ross Woodward 8th Graders: I wish you the very best in your new schools! Most of the high schools in NHPS have their own requirements for Summer Reading. Be prepared when you start your journey and Check them out! |
